Packing List

Before you start on anything, make a list of rooms you need to pack and give yourself a dateline to keep things in check and make sure you stick by it. Eg. Study room: 31 Jan - 2 Feb

1. Start packing in the least utilized (or least necessary) place of the house.

For example the reading room, or the entertainment room would be less utilized and less necessary as compared to the bathroom or the kitchen. Also make it a point to pack the ornaments or any decorative items (paintings, vases, framed pictures, etc.) before the necessities such as cookware and toiletries, as well as bed linens and curtains before clothing you wear on a frequent basis.

2. Sort everything by its categories.

Prepare boxes and pack similar things together. Some probable categories could be 'clothing', 'kitchenware', 'books', 'bags' and 'footwear'. You can create any category, and as many of such categories as you like.

* Subcategorize!

To make things easier, subcategorize the items. For instance, for kitchenware, further categorize it into 'plates and bowls', 'cups', 'utensils' and such for easier unpacking after you move house!

3. Label all your items!

Use a dark colored marker and label everything in bold. The bigger it is, the better you will notice it! This will aid in the unpacking after you move house. It is important to label "fragile" items to remind yourself, or the movers to be extra careful during house moving. You can also write your names on boxes with your belongings to avoid mix-ups.

4. If there are other people living in the house, get them involved!

By packing your own items, you will be more organized. Moreover it will hasten the packing process for moving house! Pack individual items and rooms before packing the common rooms will make house moving more organized and systematic.

5. Get help!

Mobilize your friends and family members to help you pack and move. More help means faster packing. Do remember to reciprocate when they ask for your help in future!

6.Throw out unwanted stuff!

This is a good time to throw out unwanted, old, and spoilt items! Throwing these out will mean that you do not have to pack them for house moving. Moving house will be less troublesome with fewer items to pack and less boxes to move.
